The Facebook ‘Safety Check’ needs to be used wisely

Facebook has created its special 'safety check' feature
which is there to help locate millions of stranded people in
Nepal right now. By clicking on the safe option, anyone can
notify their friends that they are safe and not in danger from
the mishap that has transpired in the country and even in
India.
But somehow it has become a common practice to try out
the feature (or implement it) without reading into the
importance of the same. While it pleases to know the friends
in the unreachable and havoc areas are safe and sound but
why on earth are the people miles away from this entire
incident also making use of this feature?
This way, it is easy to understand the other side of having
easy access to technology which makes it irrelevant in most
cases. At best, Facebook should have made sure the feature
becomes active to the people residing in the affected
portions of the country or someone from Nepal in particular,
instead here you have a feature which acts as a useful
guard for many in need of something to communicate with
the outside world (or social world) open to everyone.
That's where Google's person finder is all the more reliable
than the option available with Facebook. With the help of
Google Maps (and other services) Person finder adds up
people to its database which has been set up particularly for
this aspect.
So, just a quick word of advice to all the folks out there, if
you're truly in need of help or currently positioned in
affected areas, use the mark, else just stay away from it.
