Gionee Elife S7

The Chinese smartphone maker
Gionee is increasingly looking at
making slimmer smartphones. The
company had launched the Elife S5.5
and S5.1 in the recent past and now
launched Elfie S7 now. Gionee Elife S7
is the slimmest dual-SIM smartphone
around. In our hands on we try and
find out what this smartphone is all
about
Design
Gionee is pegging its entire "S" series
on the style quotient and this is why
we expect the design of its
smartphones to stand out. Sure we
knew that is a very slim smartphone
but are all slim or shall we say size
zero phones good looking? Certainly
not!
However, Gionee Elife S7 does manage
to carry off its slimness quite well. The
phone looks slender and sleek. At the
same time, it also appears a delicate
darling. Just to make sure if it is indeed
one or if it can survive a few bumps, I
did drop the review unit on the
carpeted floor and it remained
unharmed, which makes me conclude
that it is not as fragile as it looks. To
protect this smartphone, there is a
layer of Corning Glass 3 on both front
and back.
The metal frames on the sides, add
more to its glamour quotient
Features
Gionee Elife S7 comes with a 5.2-inch
full HD AMOLED display
(manufactured by Samsung), on which
colours really stand out.
For camera, there is 13MP rear
snapper, which managed to do a
decent job in adequate lighting
conditions. For selfie lovers there is an
8MP front camera, which does a decent
job.
The smartphone runs on Android 5.0
Lollipop along with a layer of Amigo
3.0. Though I have never been a fan of
the Amigo UI, but the company claims
that they have unified the same quite
a bit so I am waiting to spend some
time with this smartphone to
understand how things change later.
It is powered by a MediaTek
1.7GHz.octa-core processor along with
2GB of RAM. It offers 16GB of internal
storage, which cannot be expanded
any further. Gionee Elife S7 comes
fitted with a 2,700mAh battery (non-
removable), which as per the company
claims delivers 33 hours and 45
minutes of standby time.
Early verdict
Gionee Elife S7 is a good looking
smartphone and the specs on paper
look good. However, the Rs 20,000 to
Rs 30,000 market has now become
highly competitive; all thanks to the
addition of OnePlus One and Xiaomi
Mi4. At the current price of Rs 24,999,
the product is unlikely to be lapped up
from the shelves.
