Xiaomi to use a new fingerprint scanning technology with the Mi 5?

Although Xiaomi announced the Mi 4i smartphone only a
few days ago, the internet is rife with talk about its next
major flagship, the Mi 5. A new report seems to suggest
that the Chinese manufacturer could be working on a new
fingerprint scanning technology for the smartphone.
The company has filed for a patent with the Chinese
authorities, which allows for the fingerprint scanning
technology to be integrated with the smartphone's touch
sensitive buttons.
This indicates that the scanner could be built into the
capacitive keys of the smartphone, which makes for an
interesting choice as such technology is usually embedded
in physical keys, like we've seen from Apple and Samsung.
Here is an excerpt of the patent application filed by Xiaomi:
"The device comprises a bottom fingerprint sensors and
optical sensor provided in the terminal equipment of the
cover glass; fingerprint identification circuit connected
fingerprint sensor for fingerprint recognition sensor and the
fingerprint information analysis and processing, obtain
fingerprint analysis ; host processor, and an optical sensor
and fingerprint identification circuit connections for the
monitored optical sensor light information received to
determine whether cover glass touch button operation;
identity authentication based on fingerprint analysis results
obtained fingerprint identification circuit."
This is a little hard to comprehend as the application was
translated from Chinese, but it's good enough for us to
understand its functioning. Leaks have pegged the Xiaomi
Mi 5 to be packing a 5.2-inch Quad HD display, a
Snapdragon 805 chipset, a 16MP rear camera with an 8MP
front camera, 3GB of RAM, 16/64GB of storage and Android
5.0 Lollipop. The addition of a fingerprint scanner could go a
long way in making the Mi 5 a success in the market.
